Annotation: "I'd rather not have had the novel, I'd rather not have read it..." We all know the lyrics to this song. But in this course, we're not going to be looking for the hero, Oliver Twist. We'll be interested in novel heroines, writers, feminists, women who have influenced world literature in some way. Perhaps by inspiring male writers. And we'll show the magical places they told us about in their works. We will take the audience to England, France, Denmark, Algeria, Mauritania, Mali, Norway, Germany, New Caledonia, Greece and Italy. We have a category of real-life women (Mary Wollstonecraft, Mary Shelley, Regine Olsen, Catherine Sintès, Simone de Beauvoir, Emily Brontë, Louise Michel, Sapho) and a group of fictional characters (Jane Buxton, Lucy Westenra, Yvonne de Galais) who have nevertheless made a significant mark on literary history. It is a selection oriented, with few exceptions, towards the 19th and 20th centuries. Through the fates of these heroines in prose and poetry, we want to document the tortuous and thorny paths of female emancipation.
