Conditions of education at U3A

Participation in the University of the Third Age (U3A) is open to citizens of the Czech Republic over 55 years of age or citizens on disability pension regardless of the age.

The prerequisite for studying U3A is completion of secondary education with a school-leaving certificate (if the prerequisite is not met and if the course is free, an exception can be requested here).

The capacity of each course is determined by its nature or classroom size. Minimum number of participants required to open a course = 20 (exceptions to be decided by the College of Polytechnics management).

You can apply to participate in U3A via the electronic application form (E-application) associated with each programme.

Teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, exercises, and excursions and is led by erudite academic staff of the college or by experts from practice.

Teaching usually takes place once a week in the scope of 1 lesson = 2 teaching hours (1.5 hours). Each course usually contains 24 lessons (12 lessons in the WINTER semester = October–January; 12 lessons in the SUMMER semester = February–May).

The fee for U3A studies at the College of Polytechnics for the AR 2024/2025 is 800 CZK per semester.

A minimum of 60% attendance is required to complete the semester successfully. Attendance sheets record attendance and must be signed at each class.

At the end of the training, the graduate of 4-semester programs will receive a certificate of graduation from the University of the Third Age, in the case of 2-semester programs a certificate of graduation.

Terms and conditions of study can be found here.
